Civil Superintendent

Progressive Ventures Group of Companies is seeking an experienced Civil Construction Superintendent to join our rapidly expanding team. We are looking for someone who has 10 years of experience in civil construction in a leadership role.

The Superintendent is responsible for overseeing construction crews, maintaining a safe productive work environment and ensuring each job meets quality standards, meets or exceeds schedule and meets or comes under budget.


  • Be the prime point of contact between the Foremen, Project Management team and head office. The Superintendent is responsible for maintaining effective communication with the crews, Project management team, consultants and customers to ensure safe and timely job completion while achieving all project quality standards.
  • Be knowledgeable of the BC Act and OH&S Regulation to ensure the Regulations are being met as well as understand and support full compliance with PVC Safety Management Plan (SMP) and Quality Management System (QMS).
  • Incorporate health, safety, quality and environment requirements into the planning of all projects and work.
  • Visibly promote health, safety, quality and environment in the workplace through actions, example, and attitude.
  • As an agent of Progressive Ventures Group of Companies, the Superintendent works proactively to foster and maintain positive relationships with employees, clients, subcontractors and the general public.
  • Ensure crews and sub-contractors have up to date plans, permits and are notified (along with PM team) of any changes to the scope of work.
  • Responsible for ensuring all necessary resources (people, tools, sub contractors and equipment) are in place to maximise efficiency and productivity of jobs – working in conjunction with our diverse team.
  • Provides leadership to Foremen with the day-to-day direction, goals, objectives and development of the Field Operations team.
  • Ensure the proper instruction, training, supervision, equipment and personal protective equipment is provided for day to day operations of the department.
  • Evaluate work activities and onsite leadership to identify correct and document any unsafe acts and/or conditions.
  • Ensures effective safety inspections are being performed for all work areas, activities and facilities. Provide feedback and corrective actions to Safety Team and management about concerns that arise from safety inspections.
  • Ensures workers immediately report all accidents, incidents and/or personal injuries, near miss or close calls regardless of severity or consequence.
  • Ensures daily Field Level Hazard Assessments (FLHA’s), toolbox and safety meetings are conducted and recorded. Review and sign FLHA’s and toolbox talk to ensure content and quality is effective.
  • Ensures proper safety performance of all workers and subcontractors, initiate any corrective and/or disciplinary actions as necessary for non-compliant behaviours.
  • Works closely with Human Resource team and the General Manager in HR activities such as workforce planning, succession planning, goal setting, performance reviews and recruitment & retention activities.

The successful candidate will:

  • Display strong leadership skills with experience in managing and developing multiple crews.
  • Have an in-depth knowledge of civil construction.
  • Be able to trouble shoot and solve problems.
  • Have 10 Years experience in a leadership role.

Pay will be negotiated based on experience, and full benefits apply after 3-month probation period.

Scope of the project was adding 11,500 sq ft of new facility in addition to an inside / outside renovation of 21,000 sq ft of existing building.  The final result was a most impressive modernized dealership that was completed 30 days ahead of schedule and on budget.
